What’s Happening With Worship At Nazareth?
John 4:23-24 records Jesus saying, “But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
The COVID crisis has brought many changes, challenges, and opportunities to our lives and has certainly impacted the way we gather as a family in faith for worship at Nazareth. Even so, we continue to place a high value on worshiping God weekly “in spirit and truth” as our Nazareth family gathers in a variety of ways. Out of an abundance of caution and care for our members and guests beginning Sunday, March 15, we suspended in-person worship at Nazareth only returning to in-person worship options again on Sunday, July 5, at our normal times of 9:00 and 10:45 a.m.
Despite the disappointment of not being able to gather in person at all for many months and even now for some, the current public health crisis has led to some great opportunities to expand our worship reach. Almost immediately, we moved to weekly online worship options for our whole service each week as well as a number of televised options (4 weekly options on three different television channels: The CW, & CFU Cable Access Channels 18 & 95.5). This move required a quick pivot of staffing time as well as an investment in new technologies and equipment to ensure the quality of these new online and broadcast options.
What has all of this meant? It means that whereas our weekly live worship attendance averaged around 1000 prior to the COVID pandemic, we are now reaching around 3000 people each week here in the Cedar Valley, across the country, and literally around the world (with one regular online worshipper joining us each week from Malaysia among several other previously unthinkable locales)!
Throughout this time of transition, the service times, length, and content have varied widely and are now settling into a more predictable and producible standard format providing the highest quality production values, the widest possible reach, and the best stewardship of our physical and staffing resources. Here is a breakdown of our various service options beginning the weekend of July 25:
Saturdays on CFU Channels 18 & 95.5 at 5:30 pm
Sundays on CFU Channels 18 & 95.5 at 8:30 am
Sundays live at Nazareth at 9:00 am and 10:45 am
Sundays online at naz.org and on Facebook at 9:00 am (and then 24/7)
Sundays on the CW Channel (check local listings) at 10:00 am
Wednesdays on CFU Channels 18 & 95.5 at 4:30 pm
Please note that due to COVID precautions our current live services have been abbreviated to run around 45 minutes, but still include some basic liturgy, multiple songs and prayers, a children’s sermon and the primary sermon along with Holy Communion on the first and third Sundays of each month. Now that our primary live options have returned and due to limitations with staffing and other resources, we have settled on a streamlined broadcast and online version of our weekly service that typically includes the primary sermon, a single worship song, and on occasion some brief prayers or other video elements lasting exactly 28:30.
The last piece of our varied worship options that will be coming soon (1-2 months) is a live stream of our in-person worship services featuring the full service each week available concurrently with the 9:00 & 10:45 am services. As one can quickly see, there are numerous varieties of styles and times and manners of worshiping together as our Nazareth family and we thank God for our ability to better live out our mission of “inviting all people to know Christ, grow in Christ, and make Christ known.”
Thank you for your faithfulness in being part of our Nazareth family and for continuing to worship our awesome God “in spirit and in truth” through a variety of means and in a variety of ways and at a variety of times throughout each week!
In the Strong Love of Christ,

At Nazareth, there are many different opportunities to engage in worship via music.
The Nazareth Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel. This is a choral ensemble designed to serve vocalists from ages 13-102 (and beyond) who are called to serve in worship by enhancing the spoken word with beautiful song. We offer opportunities to participate in weekly worship. Directed by Dr. Nicki Toliver and assisted by Nathaniel Parrish, this special ministry family supports a safe learning environment for the developing voice of any age and does not require an audition. Come one; come all, with a servant’s heart! New members welcomed anytime! Contact Dr. Nicki Toliver for more information at email@example.com.
