Brian King

I grew up in Mahomet, Illinois, before graduating from both Wartburg College and Wartburg Theological Seminary. I have
served calls in La Crosse, Wisconsin and Iowa Falls, Iowa and have served as the Senior Pastor of Nazareth since 2010. In my 20+ years of ordained ministry, I have served on numerous boards, committees and task forces at the churchwide, synodical, and community level, including terms on the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA General Assembly, the ELCA Board for the Division for Church and Society, Augsburg-Fortress Publishing, and currently as a member of the Board of Regents for Wartburg College. I was the recipient of one of five 2004 Outstanding Young Iowan awards presented by the State of Iowa Jaycees Junior Chamber for my
work in community and youth development.
I seek to live out Micah 6:8 by “doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly before God” as I share God’s biblical vision for Christian community through preaching, teaching, visiting, counseling, and growing deeper in relationship to God and others.
I am passionate about seeing people transformed by the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ – no longer captive to sin and selfishness but freed in Christ to love and serve others with reckless abandon.
As the first ELCA Churchwide Lutheran Youth Organization President, I continue to have a passion for strong youth and family ministries. Other interests include politics, weightlifting, biking, and hands-on service opportunities.
My wife, Jen, and I have four teenage and twenty-something children who bring us great joy and leave us with few idle moments!
Favorite verse right now? Hebrews 12:1-2 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.”
